Best Time to Travel to Cusco: Weather, Prices, and Tourist Seasons

por | Feb 3, 2026

Cusco is one of Peru’s most visited destinations year-round. However, choosing the best time to travel depends on factors such as weather, budget, and the type of experience you want to enjoy. Understanding the tourist seasons will help you plan your trip more effectively.

Weather in Cusco Throughout the Year

Cusco has two clearly defined seasons:

Dry Season (May to September)
This is the most popular time to visit. Days are usually sunny, with pleasant temperatures ranging from 18°C to 22°C, and colder nights. It is ideal for visiting Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, and for trekking routes such as the Inca Trail or Salkantay Trek.

Rainy Season (November to March)
During these months, rainfall is more frequent, especially in the afternoons. Temperatures are milder, and the landscapes become lush and green. February is the rainiest month, and some trekking routes temporarily close.

Prices and Travel Costs

Prices vary depending on the season:

  • High season (June, July, and August): higher demand and higher prices for flights, hotels, and tours.
  • Mid-season (April, May, September, and October): a great balance between weather, prices, and number of tourists.
  • Low season (November to March): lower prices and more availability, ideal for budget-conscious travelers.

Booking in advance is key to securing better rates, especially during the high season.

Which Tourist Season Is Best for You?

  • If you’re looking for dry weather and outdoor activities, the best option is from May to September.

  • If you prefer fewer tourists and more affordable prices, the mid-season is ideal.

  • If you enjoy green landscapes and a quieter experience, the rainy season can be a great alternative.

There is no single best time to travel to Cusco—only the time that best fits your interests, budget, and travel style. With proper planning, Cusco offers unforgettable experiences at any time of the year.
